Oakland International Film Festival Wraps For the Future

The Sixteenth Annual Oakland International Film Festival with its tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination is a wrap untying a present to the future as Saturday, April 7th at the Jack London Regal was the stage for its last major showings including "California's Forgotten Children," by Melody Miller and Cheryl Fabio's "Evolutionary Blues." Oakland- The Sixteenth Annual Oakland International Film Festival recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the theme "Where Do We Go From Here," closes today with screenings at Jack London Regal.  
Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O'Malley will be on hand for the screening today at 5:30-7:30 p.m. of Melody Miller's "California's Forgotten Children," a film that is "a movement" to stop child sex-trafficking.  O'Malley, who has established a nonprofit battling, http://www.heatwatch.org/,the human scourge, is in the film that screens in auditorium 5.  Filmmaker Melody Miller will also be in attendance.  Both will be available for interviews and questions. This is the second showing of the film during the festival (See trailer below). 
On a lighter note, in auditorium 4, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Cheryl Fabio's "Evolutionary Blues" hits the big screen chronicling "West Oakland's Music Legacy."  The line up of stellar talent includes: Sugar Pie DeSanto, Bob Geddins, Jr., Bob Geddins, Sr., Marvin Holmes, Faye Carol, Larry Vann, Jim Moore, Lenny Williams, Ronnie Stewart, John Turk, Leon Williams, Lee Hildebrand, Alabama Mike, Ron Wells, Fantastic Negrito, The Hartfield Brothers, Freddie Hughes, Wylie Trass, Jesse James, Lady Bianca, Tom Bowden, and D'Wayne Wiggins. Legends such as Charles Sullivan, T-Bone Walker, Lowell Fulson, Jimmy McCracklin, Big Mama Thronton, and Omar Sharriff are incorporated through short vignettes. Many, like Johnny Talbot and De Thangs or Larry Graham are talked into the story.
The musicians are invited to attend. To date Cheryl Fabio the director is confirmed to be present and will be available for interviews.  Today's screening is the second during the run of the festival.
