On Thursday April 11th, 2024 around 300 LSF alumni and friends came together to wish Dianne a happy retirement after 35+ years as the Executive Director of Leadership San Francisco. A huge thanks to Alumna Sara Grauf (Class of 2009) and the SF Giants who hosted a magical evening on the field where we got to run the bases, view the three World Series trophies, and take a few swings in the batting cages. Class of 2024 April: Session 8 Topic: Artificial Intelligence Hosted by: The Exploratorium |

Session 8 featured an inaugural topic—Artificial Intelligence—and was hosted at The Exploratorium. The planning group spent an extraordinary amount of time educating themselves on this new technology. They attended seminars and speeches to figure out who the main players were in this space. Through this effort, they built out a robust day consisting of 9 experts in various fields of AI. They started the day with general education, fundamentals, and hands-on learning with AI consultant Alison McCauley. The second half of the morning included thought leaders Mickey McManus (Boston Consulting Group), Toshi Hoo (Emerging Media Lab), Sherry Wong, and Catherine Bracy. This included content around understanding the risk of bias and how revolutionary AI may be, plus conversations around ethics, justice, and AI policy challenges. The afternoon shifted focus and got more local. We heard from the Mayor's Director of Innovation, Sophia Kittler, on how San Francisco is planning to integrate AI. As well as our City Attorney, David Chiu (LSF Class of 2003), who talked about some of the risks that he worries about. Peter Hirshberg demoed functioning tools that are modeling innovative new spaces, buildings, and urban downtowns, highlighting the value and urgency of this technology. We spent the rest of the day examining how AI will change the future and ended with a great exercise in which we opened our minds and imagined all of the accomplishments that AI could achieve in the next few years. |
