Legendary jazz lesson Randy Weston speaks with Democracy Now's Amy Goodman. He speaks of his family's influence on his great work. For the past six decades, Weston has been a pioneering jazz musician incorporating the vast rhythmic heritage of Africa. His most famous compositions include "Little Niles," "Blue Moses" and "Hi-Fly," and his 1960 album, "Uhuru Afrika," was a landmark recording that celebrated the independence movements in Africa and the influence of traditional African music on jazz. Count Bassie, Thelonius Monk, Coleman Hawkins, Louis Armstrong and more play into his music.

During Women's History Month and the SF 100 Black Women in San Francisco Weekend, The National Coalition of 100 Black Women San Francisco Chapter will host the 7th Annual "Golden Girls Hats and Gloves Tea-Bridging the Generations," Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the historic Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. The keynote speaker will be Naomi Kelly, the first Black City Administrator for the City of San Francisco. Mayor Edwin Lee will be in attendance with a proclamation. California State Senator Leland Yee, San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr.,and several consul generals are confirmed guests of the Honorable Teresa Cox Trade Advisor to the Obama Administration who is among the honorees at the 7th Annual "Bridging the Generations" Golden Girls Hats & Gloves Tea during the National Coalition of 100 Black Women in San Francisco Multicultural Weekend. The public comment period will run for 45 days from February 15 through April 2.
