The Mexican Heritage Corporation (MHC), the non-profit producer of the annual San José Mariachi and Mexican Heritage Festival, today announced the organization's selection by Santa Clara County to receive a grant for a new summer program providing nutritious meals and music and dance instruction at three summer camps in San José this year. The grant is funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Emergency Contingency Funds and administered by the YMCA of Silicon Valley. The grant contract amount is in excess of $800,000.

Just as the First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama, a few weeks ago turned the eyes of the world back to Haiti to remind everyone that the work as a result of January's earthquake is not complete. LaHitz@Cannes and the Cannes 24 Hour Film Challenge will challenge the film and entertainment industry gathered at Cannes to remember the Haitian people. Jacquie Taliaferro and Steven Kimbrough are asking the film industry to continue to use its creativity to help and also asking people of the world to do what they can by helping Haitians who are helping themselves such as Jimmy Jean-Louis founder of "Hollywood Unites for Haiti" and Dr. Joe DeMertine founder of ServiMed Haiti.
