Latino Non-Profit Horizons Unlimited Kicks Off Year Long Anniversary Celebration

HORIZONS KICKS OFF 40TH ANNIVERSARY WITH ONE HOT PACHANGA
Horizons Unlimited inaugurates year-long anniversary celebration with a party April 26.



San Francisco-Light on ceremony, heavy on the salsa dancing, food, music, prizes and “Joie de Vivre” describes, the Pachanga (Party) slated for Thursday, April 26th at Roccapulco Supper Club 
3140 Mission Street in San Francisco.  Viva, Horizons Unlimited, celebrating forty years of engaging, educating, and inspiring young people.

Thousands of people have been touched and changed by their experience with Horizons Unlimited.  The organization is calling former staff, volunteers, board members, program participants, old and new friends to join the yearlong recognition that kicks off with a party with purpose.  The organizers want to make sure Horizons Unlimited is around for years to come to serve young people and the Bay Area.

“We may not be around when Horizons celebrates 140 years, but we want to do our part to make sure there is a good foundation for the many years to come,” says Nora Rios-Reddick, Executive Director.  “We’re asking people who have been touched by Horizons to go to our website (www.horizons-sf.org) and write a short testimonial about their experience with Horizons.  And of course we want them to attend the party,” said Rios Reddick.  There are also sponsorship opportunities that can be found on the website.  “Our party kicks off our year-long recognition and sponsorships can be made for the party or the organization in general,” added Rios Reddick.

The Pachanga begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 26 at Roccapulco (Mission@ Cesar Chavez) and is expected to last until the wee hours of Friday morning.  Entertainment includes a Salsa Class taught by Tianne Frias, music by DJ Quest, and performances by The San Francisco State University Latin Jazz Orchestra with five singers directed by John Calloway; also in the “once in a lifetime hot line up” are Jesus Diaz and the Bay Area Afro Cuban All Stars: Jesus Diaz, vocal percussion; Karl Perrazo, timbales, also Carlos Santana band member, Barbara Valladares, vocals, Anthony Blea, violin; John Calloway, flute and piano; Marco Diaz, piano and trumpet; Ayla Davila, bass, band member with Los Mocosos; Mike Almos, trumpet; Jeff Cressman, trombone, also Carlos Santana band member; and Javier Navarette, Congas.  

From the fantastico Latino appetizers to the fabulous raffle prizes including a weekend getaway, jewelry, wine and other great prizes, the evening will be a party with purpose that will help sustain the organization that has given life skills, confidence, training, and first jobs to so many people.  Miguel Bustos, a former Senior Policy Adviser to the House of Representatives, is one of the alums featured on the Horizons Unlimited website who states he got his start with the organization (www.Horizons-sf.org).

Authored by Senator Wiener and sponsored by Mayor Breed, Senate Bill 925 (SB 925) would allow San Francisco to create permitting requirements to regulate the sale of items commonly obtained through retail theft and impose criminal penalties for those who engage in this practice.
