NAMI WALK May 31 for FUN and FUNDS to HELP MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

MAY 31st 5K WALK RAISES AWARENESS AND FUNDS FOR NAMI SF BAY


WHO:     Thousands of walkers for the National Association on Mental Illness.   NAMI volunteers and staff, volunteers from various corporations and community groups in the San Francisco Bay Area will join fifty communities from around the country to bring awareness about Mental Illness during the annual.  The walk is sponsored by NAMI affiliates in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco and Solano counties.  See www.namiwalkssfbay.org for details.


WHAT:    Annual Fundraiser, 5K NAMI Walk.  Registration is free.   


WHEN:    May 31st - Check in time 9:30 a.m.  Walk begins at 11:00 a.m.


WHERE:    Speedway Meadow, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA.


WHY:        The 5K Fundraising Walk is an opportunity to raise money and awareness about
the country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people
with mental illness.  NAMI provides information to support veterans and active duty personnel with its Veteran’s Resource Center at www.nami.org; NAMI addresses the issue of women and depression, multicultural mental health issues, advocates politically for improved public policies addressing the needs of the mentally ill and their families, and provides opportunities for people to take action.  NAMI provides a great public service worthy of media coverage to inform the public about the available mental health resources.

Breed joined State Senator Scott Wiener to announce legislation to combat fencing, the sale of stolen goods on City streets. Authored by Senator Wiener and sponsored by Mayor Breed, Senate Bill 925 (SB 925) would allow San Francisco to create permitting requirements to regulate the sale of items commonly obtained through retail theft and impose criminal penalties for those who engage in this practice.
