From canvassing neighborhoods, passing out literature at festivals and fairs to attending, testifying and videotaping local governmental meetings on Marin Clean Energy since May, Women's Energy Matters has been a major force in the grassroots efforts to bring about change to make a difference now and in the future - helping the environment as well as the local economy.

"We've been on the front line and we have seen the elected officials and grassroots organizations working hard to give Marin County a viable new beginning with Marin Clean Energy," said Barbara George, Executive Director of Women's Energy Matters.  "It was great to take the time to celebrate the achievements to date, to break bread together, get to know each other better and to honor the people that are making environmental history today."

"Being there from the start, when there was no one around, handing out packets about renewable energy with my children in tow, it is so gratifying to see so many that have joined the effort, said Rebekah Collins, Founder of Sustainable Fairfax.  "I so appreciate Barbara George for honoring our work on the front line."

Elected Officials in attendance, Marin County Supervisor Steve Kinsey, Mary Ann Maggiore, Mayor of Fairfax and Fairfax Council members Larry Bragman and Lew Tremaine also shared their appreciation of Barbara George and Women's Energy Matters and the hard work of their fellow honorees.  Supervisor Kinsey presented George with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the Marin County Board of Supervisors.

Theresa Coleman, Board Chair of Women's Energy Matters, thanked the crowd and invited their continued participation.  "I am a longtime resident of Bayview Hunters Point and have fought for clean energy and the elimination of the power plant in my neighborhood and over the years I did not witness such a wonderful gathering as we are enjoying tonight," said Coleman.  "Thanks for celebrating with us and saluting each other and I invite you to stay engaged and to continue to support Women's Energy Matters.  Thanks to Madeline Muir who videotapes many of the key meetings about Marin Clean Energy which we post to our website. Visit www.womensenergymatters.org to become a member and or to keep up with the Marin Clean Energy Plan."
