Cannes,France- On the heels of First Lady Michelle Obama unveiling of the Sojourner Truth bust in Washington, D. C., Jacquie Taliaferro. Director of  LaHitz Media continued his company's annual tribute to the former slave, abolitionist, women's suffrage advocate, and mother of thirteen, Sojourner Truth by awarding Eriq Ebouaney with the LaHitz Media Sojourner Truth Award during the LaHitz@Cannes Film Series.

Eriq Ebouaney joined the Sojourner Truth Award recipients humanitarian efforts including the "Help Mama Africa" project (Help Mama Africa Public Service Announcements).  For more than a decade, the award that is presented at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles and during the Cannes International Film Festival has been given to film and entertainment artists but is also presented to individuals outside of the industry.  Past honorees include: Melvin Van Pebbles, Jean Marie-Gaston Kabore, Danny Glover, Lil Cumbers, Neema Barnett, South African Film Commissioner, Eddie Mbato, filmmaker Rahmatou Keita of Nigeria and U.S labor activist, Maria Elena Durazo, Marla Gibbs, Nichelle Nichols, and Yo-Yo Whitaker.

"It's great to see President Obama's administration honoring a woman who challenged the U.S. to live up to its founding human rights tenets," said Jacquie Taliaferro, Director, LaHitz Media.  I commend the Obama Administration and the National Congress of Black Women that commissioned the bust by Artis Lane and worked for a decade to memorialize Truth on Capitol Hill."
