CONCORD, CA- The economic crisis has made it necessary for social services organizations to increase visibility and fundraising to meet the demanding needs of people losing their jobs and their homes.  Lutheran Social Services of Northern California will benefit from a concert 7:00 p.m. November 29th  at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sacramento by piano virtuoso Ricardo Scales, a music phenom that leaves audiences wanting more.

Scales' musical genius spans a variety of genres including Classical, Jazz, R&B, and Gospel.  Scales, who is a regular at the Top of the Mark at the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco, will be bringing a touch of San Francisco to Sacramento.  He has six CD's to his credit and his music has been described as "transformative" and his concerts "a mystical musical journey that leaves audiences enthralled."

"For some these economic times are a recession, but for others it is an outright depression.  Either way we want to increase our services to meet the demands of people in need.  This concert with Ricardo Scales will help," said Barbara Droher Kline, Executive Director of Lutheran Social Services of Northern California.  "It will recoup some of the funds we were expecting from the Garrison Keillor Concert that was cancelled
due to his illness."  Scales was on the bill to perform at an "Evening with Garrison Keillor" that was to be held in the Sacramento Civic Auditorium in September.

The new Lutheran Social Services of Northern California Homeless Program in Sacramento funded in part by the federal stimulus funds will be among the organization's services based in Concord, Oakland, Sacramento, San Francisco and Stockton that will benefit from money raised at the concert.  Lutheran Social Services of Northern is one of only three agencies awarded a $1.2 million HPRP annual contract in the Sacramento area for the next two years.  The new program places a priority on "housing stability." Whether foreclosure is imminent or whether a family or individual has been in a shelter for a significant period of time, the new homeless prevention program provides resources to help resettle people into housing.  Those in need should call 211 in Sacramento to begin the intake process.

"We are pleased to host the brilliance of Ricardo ScalesReverend Sorensen at St. John Lutheran Church for such a worthy cause," said Reverend Scot E. Sorensen, Senior Pastor, St. John Lutheran Church.  "Our motto is to 'live God's love in the world.' Hosting this benefit concert with Ricardo Scales in order to help others is God's love in action.
