Oakland, CA (December 13, 2009) - Rain or Shine, people can gather under the big heated tent at the Oakland Zoo during the holidays to bring their old pots and pans and save on new ones. As they participate in an innovative benefit with 30%-75% savings, they can also save area landfills from processing 30 tons of old pots and pans thanks to Cook'sware a'Faire's "Ultimate Cookware Event," today through December-20, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Consumers save up to 75% on brand name gourmet cookware including Anolon, Circulon, Farberware, KitchenAid, Paula Deen, Rachael Ray, and EarthPan.
The environmentally-focused event is being held during the Zoo's annual ZooLights festival and will give Bay Area residents an opportunity to purchase a wide assortment of brand named cookware, enjoy cooking demonstrations by some of the area's leading chefs, and turn in their old pots and pans for recycling. No cookware purchase is necessary if a person just wants to recycle their old cookware. However, an additional discount coupon will be given to persons wanting to purchase new cookware.
"This event is about fun for the family, practical holiday purchases and a great way to help save the planet," Joel Kaplan, Cook'sware a'Faire's organizer. "We want to bring awareness to people to recycle their pots and pans as a key philanthropic element to our special event," he added. We will help save the planet and help the Oakland Zoo with this special program."
According to Kaplan, Aaron Metals, Oakland, will be on hand to collect the recycled cookware making sure that it does not end up in Bay Area landfills. Kaplan estimates that the event could collect as much as 60,000 poundsor 30 tons of old pots, pans and lids. The Zoo will receive proceeds from the recycled cookware as well as from the overall sales of new cookware.
Some of the chefs participating in Cook'sware 'aFaire's that will be on hand to give gourmet tips and cooking demonstrations for healthier eating and living, include Paula LeDuc, Amy Klein, Mike C, Chef Oliver, Jo Jones, Kevin Bressani, Renee King, Emily Dellas, Gregg Man, and Mieko Ramyer.
