Two years after the Comcast hearing that recently hit the headlines, the FCC is coming back to Stanford on May 21st to debate a possible loosening of cross-ownership rules on broadcast and print outlets. On hold since 2007 due to the lawsuit Promentheus vs FCC (MA is a co-plaintiff in the case), the DC Courts recently lifted a stay on the rule change. What Do Women Know? Only about 1/3 of what men know, according to NPR. The public radio network's ombudsman released a report in early April titled "Where Are The Women?" surveying 104 shows over a 9 month period. Road Trip: MA to Orange County and Inland Empire On April 6th, Media Alliance teamed with California Common Cause and the LA Media Justice Summit crew to visit two Socal House Democrats who questioned the need for net neutrality. In one long day, we stopped at Rep. Joe Baca's office in San Bernardino and then Rep. Loretta Sanchez in Garden Grove. Good conversation ensued and we are optimistic they will reconsider their stance. Visits are also being planned for Reps. Cardoza and Costa in the Central Valley in the near future.
