Your Kids Have A Dream: Family Fun For Martin Luther King Day [GloboMaestro] MoAD, as its known, has been big on interactive education since it opened in 2005, and this year's MLK Day of Service is no exception. The family-focused program will feature a "What is Your Dream?" project that invites children to create their "vision board" - collages of pictures and images. There will also be a rotation of films about the civil rights leader, plus a performance of Afro-Latin grooves courtesy of Bobi Cespedes. [more] |

Bay Area Young Professionals Host Holiday Party to Support the Museum of African Diaspora [Black Gives Back] On Saturday, December 4th, 2010 at a private estate in Oakland, The Vanguard hosted its Holiday Launch Party. The purpose of this event was to introduce San Francisco Bay Area professionals to The Vanguard, a young professionals group that supports and raises funds for the Museum of African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco. The evening was filled with southern cuisine, art, a silent auction, spoken word performances and a special performance by the Bay Area's own Martin Luther. [more] |

IN CONVERSATION Wendel White and Dr. Leigh Raiford Friday, January 21 | 6pm-8pm: Join us for an evening of conversation between Wendel White and Dr. Leigh Raiford co-presented with the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). Wendel White is showing his Manifest project at CIIS, a collection of images that are representations of objects, documents, and images concerned with the issues of slavery and freedom for African Americans. Dr. Raiford is Associate Professor of African American Studies at UC Berkeley. Her teaching and research interests include race, gender and visual culture with an emphasis on film and photography, race and racial formations of the United States; black feminism; memory studies; and black popular culture.
