  Celebrating the Legacy
of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"All I say to America is be true to what you said on paper," from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s last speech, "I've Been To the Mountaintop." Click her for 3 minute excerpt.

DEAR FRIENDS,

As we consider Dr. King's quote "I just want to do God's will," we recognize a man driven with purpose.  Why are we here?  What should we do?  As Dr. King alluded to the great leader Moses in his last speech from Memphis, "I've been to the mountain top," we too can consider a Moses Moment.  As the scripture accounts, as Moses was about to embark on his great life's purpose, the question of what and how to do it was proposed.  The answer came back from God "What is in your hand?"  That's an indicator for us-"What is in your hand."  What do you have access to?  What can you do?  Begin with what you have.  Maybe time to participate in the National Day of Service on Monday?  Maybe you can begin by serving your own family, your own community before shipping off to foreign lands to save the world.  Save your house.  Save your own world.

As we ponder Dr. King and the idea of purpose, we can't help but think of "Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You, Rather Ask What Can You Do For Your Country.  "Some Men Ask Why.  I Ask Why Not."  The Kennedy brothers come to mind.  With that thought, I can't help but remember the time when every Black home, I ever entered had a picture of the Lord's Supper on the Wall and Photographs of President John Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Senator and Presidential Hopeful Bobby Kennedy.

Enjoy your Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend.  Make a Difference Where You Are and Let it Begin With What is In Your Hand!

Sincerely,

Jackie Wright
