"When the media comes out for positive and constructive news in the Bayview it is a major achievement. I'd like to thank KTVU, General Manager, Tom Raponi and News Director, Ed Chapuis for understanding that the Bayview should be reported on with balance and not just when shootings and other crimes occur," said Reverend Dr. Bryant. Friday's Candidates Forum exemplified many of our American values including the right to assemble and freedom of speech. KTVU held up its 'Fourth Estate' responsibility. Freedom of the press is essential to democracy and a fair and balanced press benefits everyone," added Reverend Dr. Bryant.

NCIC Commends KTVU TOO!

Reverend Gregg Brown Leads March
NCIC Board President, Rev. Greggory Brown (4th from left) Marches In Arizona in Solidarity with Immigrant Rights Advocates.
"I join with Reverend Dr. Joseph Bryant in commending KTVU for covering the Rainbow P.U.S.H. Candidates Forum in the Bayview," said Reverend Greggory Brown, President of Northern California Interreligious Conference (NCIC).  "KTVU has a history of serving the community, so I am not surprised that they were the only network affiliate to cover this positive news in Bayview Hunters' Point.  Another example of KTVU's commitment to 'serve in the public interest' was their coverage of the funeral services for Bishop Walter Hawkins last year.  NCIC members worked with then General Manager Tim McVay and News Director Ed Chapuis to ensure the webcast of the services over KTVU's Internet.  People from all over the world where thankful.  There was limited coverage of the Bishop's passing until KTVU stepped up in a great way.  We need to make sure media are 'serving in the public interest' and are willing to report on the honorable and noteworthy occurrences in the communities of color, not just the crime.  Media that do not show up for the good news, but only report the negative need to be called into accountability by the public," added Reverend Brown.
