San Francisco, November 16, 2011 - Urban Music Presents Sista Monica Parker's CD Release "Living in the Danger Zone" on Friday December 16 at the premier venue George's Nightclub in San Rafael. Opening for Sista Monica is blues guitarist GG Amos and the GG Amos Band! This will be a fantastic night of Blues, Gospel and R&B!

 

Who is Sista Monica Parker?

Sista Monica Parker is an award winning soul, blues and gospel singer, songwriter, speaker, recording artist and producer. She is known as the "blues lioness" at major festivals internationally. She is a force of nature with a deep, rich contralto vocal range, dynamic and show stopping stage performances. She connects with her audiences and pulls them in to her emotional space.

Now residing on the west coast, Monica was born in Gary, Indiana. Her musical influences growing up in the mid west between Chicago and Detroit were artists such as Mavis Staples, Sam Cooke, Aretha, James Brown and Buddy Guy. At the age of seven (7), she -like so many others, started her singing career in the Baptist and COGIC Churches. She became steeped in the rich tradition of traditional and contemporary gospel, blues and soul music. Sista Monica Parker leads a 6 piece veteran band and has produced eight 8 CDs to date. They have traveled and toured Italy, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Holland, France, and all parts of the United States.

Singer/songwriter of contemporary blues, soul, R&B and gospel Sista Monica Parker - writes, sings, and releases her highly anticipated CD "Living in the Danger Zone" on Indie record label Mo Muscle Records October 18th 2011.


An award-winning recording artist, Sista Monica carries the baton for the great blues women such as Etta James, Koko Taylor, Katie Webster and Ruth Brown. She sings, croons, shouts, and belts with power, sass and sultry phrasing on this CD. The Sista Monica Band consists of Danny "B" Beconcini - piano and Hammond B3, Don Caruth - guitar, Leon Joyce Jr. - drums, Artis Joyce "AJ' - bass, and Danny Sandoval - tenor saxophone. Sista Monica produces deep-pocket grooves that will have listeners clapping their hands, singing along, and dancing in their seats and on their feet. This is a DJ's delight. "Living in the Danger Zone" offers the very best in female contemporary blues, soul and R&B. Songs like "Fierce Force of Nature" a high energy rockin' blues beat that describes her show-stopping nature to connect with audiences. This CD has a variety of songs with fun and heartfelt lyrics, an awesome band, backing a dynamic singer in Sista Monica Parker. "Living in the Danger Zone" is a must for music lovers of all ages.

 

Who is GG Amos...

Guitarist / Vocalist GG Amos is an artist in the West Coast Blues tradition; having been raised in the California capitol of Sacramento. Now based in San Francisco, she's honed her craft as a songwriter and entertainer utilizing the r&b, jazz, funk and latin elements that make west coast blues what it is.

 

For the past 26 years she's earned a reputation as a riveting performer with a distinctive, expressive style, emphasizing soulful communication with her audience.
In March and April GG toured Poland, playing to packed houses in theaters and clubs all over the country. More European tours are planned.

 

Her most recent single "West Coast", co-written with longtime musical partner Taki Komori, is a simmering tribute to the late Johnny Heartsman and the west coast blues. It is available on CD Baby, iTunes and other outlets.
In 1997, GG released her debut CD "Gotts Ta Go".
