looking for to "give a true picture of many aspects of the life of the
coloured man in the West. Hitherto on the screen, he has been
characterized or presented only as a comedy character. This film shows
him as a real man." Robeson was also given final cut approval on the

Photographer Kathy Sloane will show images from her extensive jazz archive and read from her new book, Keystone Korner: Portrait of a Jazz Club,
comprised of more than 100 black and white photographs, a collage of
oral histories, and a marvelous CD of club recordings brilliant
enough for a stand-alone purchase. Sloane will talk generally about
cultural preservation and specifically about how and why she pursued
her passion documenting the African-American art form known as jazz. [more] |
