Dear Friends:

Our neighborhood of the Fillmore is getting ready for Mardi Gras   weekend, and so is the JHC!  You won't want to miss our   Jam Session THIS Sunday, Feb. 19 at 4:30 in the Lush Life Gallery .

This is a double collaboration with friends and neighbors: We're saluting our friends across the Bay at the  57th Street Gallery who have one of the hottest "Blue Monday" jazz jam sessions around! We'll be featuring Melvin Butts, sax; Leon Joyce, Jr., drums; Keith Saunders, keys; and Charles Hamilton, trombone.

We're also coordinating this jam session with our neighbor  Yoshi's and its tribute to Eddy Marshall . Give yourself a double treat on Sunday!

Join us with our new friends at the  Off Broadway West Theatre Company'first of the 2012 Season Play Reading Series.  This reading is from the 2011 Smash Off Broadway hit The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez, which explores a little known part of the Black and Jewish experience at the end of the Civil War. There will be two nights of the reading, on February 20 and 21.  Enjoy either a quiet night at the theater, or go big for Fat Tuesday on February 21.

Start your Fat Tuesday celebrations with a stop at the JHC.  We're supporting a youth organization in the Fillmore. Every year, the businesses and community organizations come together to support  the Village Project, which provides after-school and summer enrichment programs for children in the neighborhood.
While you're in the Gallery,  pick up a $5 wristband in order to receive special discounts in local Fillmore clubs and restaurants for the evening.  A portion of the proceeds from the wristband sales will go to support the Jazz Heritage Center. Best of all, support the Village Project and the Jazz Heritage Center while  celebrating the fun of Mardi Gras.  Take it all in!!

See you for Mardi Gras!
