More about our new Director of Resident & Community Organizing:
Jean has
a personal and political passion that everyone should have a home,
expressed in her work as an organizer, policy advocate, and service
provider. She has led large scale strategic and coalition campaigns with
mass turn-out, political programs that train and engage volunteers
and partners to build political power, and legislative and contract
campaigns.
A few words from Jean:
A Bay Area native, I have spent my
professional career working in local government, labor and the
non-profit sector to fight poverty, empower people, and build social
justice through community engagement and political organizing. For six
years, I worked on housing, land use, and transportation policy for
Santa Clara County and helped create and fund the Office of Affordable
Housing there. This work led me to continue my service and activism
Sacred Heart Community Service as the Director of Communications and
Development.
My background includes over a decade of political advocacy and I have
spent the past four years in the labor movement, most recently as the
Political Director for the Alameda Labor Council. I majored in English
at San Diego State University and will enter graduate school in 2012. I
live in Oakland with my partner Aaron and our amazing cat Leonard. I'm
very excited to join EBHO and help advance its mission and important
work through organizing, coalition building, and strong policy
advocacy.
To meet Jean and many other EBHO members and allies, please join us on April 18 at Pacific Coast Brewery (a family-friendly venue)! Please RSVP to Anthony at anthony@ebho.org.
