Holds Press Conference at Oakland City Hall Today

Thursday, March 29 12noon- 2p.m.

 

WHO: Oakland International Film Festival Executive Director David Roach,  Oakland Mayor Jean Quan (Invited), Oakland City Councilmember At Large, Rebecca Kaplan, (Invited); Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson (Invited), Filmmakers to include: Kevin Epps, Jacquie Taliaferro, KPFA's JR Valray and Community Leaders.

 

WHAT:  Press Conference announcing the 10th Annual Oakland International Film Festival, Friday, April 6 through Sunday, April 8th at the Oakland Museum. Films from Spain, the infamous film (Taken out of theaters after 3 weeks by FBI), "Spook Who Sat By The Door," Amnesty International produced "In the Land of the Free," "FAM BAM" (World Premiere at the De Young Museum November 2011) by 2011 de Young Fellow filmmaker Kevin Epps, "10-10 Gotta Win" by Jacquie Taliaferro, youth produced "Radioactive," "Merritt College: Home of The Black Panthers," narrated by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Dar He's "The Lynching of Emmett Till," JR Valray's "Block Reportin 101," "Snow," directed by Isaac Ergas, and environmental expose, "A Darker Shade of Green" are among the festival's line up. Film themes include the Environment, Social Justice and Health.

 

WHEN: TODAY, Thursday, March 29, 2012, 12 noon-2p.m.: 12:15-12:35 Speakers, 12:35-2:00 p.m.-Film Trailers.

 

WHERE: Oakland City Hall, 1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Hearing One, First Floor where council meetings are held.

 

WHY: The Oakland International Film Festival for ten years has brought positive attention to Oakland as a destination for the arts. Oakland has a rich tapestry of artistic talent and the festival affirms that fact by the utilization of the Oakland Museum as this year's home base.  

 

The Oakland International Film Festival is a testament to Oakland's artistry, the positive happenings and the honest grappling with challenges that go on in Oakland. With its growth, the Oakland International Film Festival impacts commerce and tourism.
