Oakland International Film  Festival

The Oakland International Film Festival Kicks-off its April 6-8 film fest with a special VIP Reception at Oakland's hottest and latest restaurant, FAZ on Thursday, April 5, from 6-9 p.m. Meet celebrities and more.
 
A group of Filmmakers gathered last week to hold a news conference showcasing some of the upcoming films as David Roach, Executive Director spoke about the significance of the Oakland International Film Festival's Tenth Year.
 
 
 
 
Lorraine Hansberry Theatre
 
On Saturday April 7th The Lorraine Hansberry Theatre opens "Blues for an Alabama Sky" by Pearl Cleage of Atlanta, popularized by Oprah for her book "What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day."   The day kicks off with a VIP Reception at Gallery 444 featuring the work of Danny Broadway, part of Lorraine Hansberry's extended family. Mamie Hansberry, Lorraine Hansberry's sister will add special prestige to both the reception and the 8 p.m. Opening Night performance starring Robert Gossett of TNT's "The Closer."

Vernon and Vontae Davis Foundation
 
Congratulations to Vernon and Vontae Davis Foundation for keeping the Hamlin Mansion hopping last Saturday to benefit their charitable mission that includes:
the Arts, mothers and fathers battling addiction and causes dedicated to helping children understand the importance of leading healthy and active lifestyles. The Art Ambassador Youth Program and the Children's Aids Art Programme were beneficiaries.

Businessman Henry Chu of the Black Card Circle Foundation and Alton Smith of the Niners lend their support to the Vernon and Vontae Davis Family Foundation.

Breed joined State Senator Scott Wiener to announce legislation to combat fencing, the sale of stolen goods on City streets. Authored by Senator Wiener and sponsored by Mayor Breed, Senate Bill 925 (SB 925) would allow San Francisco to create permitting requirements to regulate the sale of items commonly obtained through retail theft and impose criminal penalties for those who engage in this practice.
