SUPPORT POSITIVE BLACK FILM

I am so tired of the roles I am used to seeing African Americans playing in Hollywood. Why do we always have to be thugs, dope fiends, dancers, and play the most negative roles available? Why is it we must always cross dress to break into Hollywood? The roles we play effect us as a people and make the rest of the world pigeon hole us and think we are so one dimensional. We are a loving, non-violent people who the nation perceives as an aggressive, over sexed, ghetto population which is not true. Hollywood only gives us menial roles that make us a one dimensional race. Here at the SFBFF we break these stereotypes with roles that cover the gambit. We show ourselves in a positive light with real roles that show us as the loving people we are. We try to show positive and innovating films that you may or may not be able to view at regular screenings. We bring a positive light by selecting films which Hollywood might not ever bring you. Films that show a more positive light or just scream out "The people need to see this!". Films shot with innovation or shot with a different technique or point of view than we are used to.

Come share the experience with us. After all... Black history in America is American history and we need to see something being offered other than the buck-dancing "Hollywood Shuffle" being offered and how we are portrayed in the media. The SFBFF plans to change the world with on positive film at a time.

SFBFF Call To Entry is over at the end of April. Stay tuned for SFBFF's official selection and programing. Get ready for the best Independent films you have (never) seen. We get the best films offered and few slip by us. Check the website and join our list. Pass this on to ALL your friends and support the positive thing we do called FILM!

FAMBUL TOK

One of the most powerful DOCS I have viewed!!! This will change your life! EVERYONE should see this (no lie)

Fambul Tok: A Documentary Film About the Power of Forgiveness

Victims and perpetrators of Sierra Leone's brutal civil war come together for the first time in an unprecedented program of tradition-based truth-telling and forgiveness ceremonies. Through reviving their ancient practice of fambul tok (family talk), Sierra Leoneans are building sustainable peace at the grass-roots level - succeeding where the international community's post-conflict efforts failed. Filled with lessons for the West, this film explores the depths of a culture that believes that true justice lies in redemption and healing for individuals - and that forgiveness is the surest path to restoring dignity and building strong communities.
