The Bay Area Black Comedy Competition (BABCCF) was initially created in 1986
by theatre artist, poet and aspiring comedian Tony Spires, as a means
of leveling the playing field for African American and other minority
Bay Area stand-up comedians. From its humble roots, it has evolved into
the largest, longest-running, live showcase of urban comedians in the
world. The BABCCF has also become a major networking convention and a
national proving ground for talented up and coming stand-ups of all

civil suit over the BART Police shooting of Oscar Grant. He has

exhibition is about the Black San Franciscans of yesteryear, their
departure, and the story of those who remain. According to the 2010
census, the African American population dropped to 3.9% which is
devastating to a community that once thrived in various neighborhoods of
San Francisco. Art will be used to interpret what this
decline in population means for a community and a city that prides
