[Friday, June 1, 2012] City officials and community leaders came together at City Hall today upon the invitation of Mayor Edwin Lee, City Administrator Naomi Kelly and Supervisors Malia Cohen & Christina Olague for San Francisco's Juneteenth Celebration Kickoff and Reception. The two-day celebration starts with a parade beginning at the African American Art & Cultural Complex at 11am on June 16. The Juneteeenth festival takes place on June 16 and 17 on Fillmore Street between Geary and McAllister. Both days include a car show, petting zoo, pony rides, 3 on 3 basketball, a health fair, live entertainment, food vendors, arts and crafts and community information booths.  [more]

The African American Community Service Agency presents the Nation's largest Juneteenth Festival.  Last year's Juneteenth festival brought together 15,000 people. Authored by Senator Wiener and sponsored by Mayor Breed, Senate Bill 925 (SB 925) would allow San Francisco to create permitting requirements to regulate the sale of items commonly obtained through retail theft and impose criminal penalties for those who engage in this practice.
