San Francisco -  The Supreme Court made a landmark 5-4 decision Thursday to uphold
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts rallied Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor for the landmark 5-4 decision to uphold President Obama's
health care plan.
President Obama's health care mandate that includes a provision for most Americans to have health care.  As part of the Summer@LHT Series, "The Waiting Room" by Peter Nicks will screen Saturday, June 30 at the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, 450 Post Street@ Powell, Union Square. Can art bring light to the Obamacare/scare debate? Find out by attending the screening of "The Waiting Room."

"The Waiting Room" is a character-driven documentary film that uses extraordinary access to go behind the doors of Highland Hospital struggling to care for a community of largely uninsured patients. The film - using a blend of cinema verité and characters' voiceover - offers a raw, intimate, and even uplifting look at how patients, staff and caregivers each cope with disease, bureaucracy and hard choices.

Nicks' documentary is an intense day-in-the-life portrait of people in need of medical care, and the doctors, nurses and social workers that provide for them.  As the pendulum swings from the underemployed to chronically destitute, the patients present a stark portrait of America's dual economic and healthcare crises: a middle-aged man with agonizing spinal bone spurs who must continue to work to pay the bank to keep his home; an addict with severe breathing issues with few options; and a 15-year-old gunshot victim whose body is temporarily held as crime scene evidence, among other life vignettes, "The Waiting Room" paints a picture of America's health care realities.

A panel discussion will follow the film to include Director Peter Nicks, Dr. Mack Roach, III, internationally renowned UCSF radiation oncologist, with moderator  veteran journalist Brenda Payton, former columnist at the Oakland Tribune.
