THE MUSEUM OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA CELEBRATES
ITS SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY WITH A GALA
October 26 at the Palace Hotel
San Francisco (August 26, 2012). The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), the innovative museum in downtown San Francisco, celebrates its seventh anniversary with a Gala honoring four exceptional individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions within the corporate, philanthropic and cultural sectors. To be held at The Palace Hotel on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., the Gala, themed Global Reflections, Global Connections, promises to be a very special occasion. The event is highlighted by Mistress of Ceremony, Dana King, sculptor and CBS 5 News Anchor.
As in the past, this year's festive and high profile event will bring together over four hundred attendees to recognize the distinguished honorees and to celebrate MoAD's achievements. There will be live and silent auctions, dinner, dancing and featured musical performers. The evening will include the presentation of Honors Circle awards to The Clorox Company, recipient of the Corporate Leadership Award; Dr. Emmett Carson, President and CEO of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, recipient of the Legacy of Philanthropy Award; Rodney Williams, Senior Vice President of Moët Hennessy, recipient of the Patron of Culture Award; and Brenda Wright, Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo, recipient of the Visionary Leadership Award.
Proceeds from the gala will support MoAD's innovative and engaging exhibitions, education and public programs and will enable the Museum to sustain and expand its programs that serve hundreds of thousands of visitors from within and outside of the Bay Area. MoAD, recognized as one of the only museums focused exclusively on the presentation and celebration of the contributions of people of African descent to world culture, is a primary resource for knowledge about the African Diaspora, a premier cultural destination in the Bay Area.
"This year's gala will be the event of the season because such distinguished honorees are being recognized and because MoAD has so much to be proud of and to celebrate," said Executive Director, Grace C. Stanislaus. "We have a dedicated Board of Directors and staff and growing support within the private and public sector. We are increasingly engaged with diverse audiences and a community across the Bay Area who appreciates our work, programs and services."
About the Museum of the African Diaspora
Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) showcases the history, art and the cultural richness that resulted from the dispersal of Africans throughout the world with innovative and engaging exhibitions, education and public programs. Incorporated in 2002 as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit, MoAD opened its doors in 2005 in space contiguous with the St. Regis Hotel and Residences and in the historic Williams Building at 685 Mission Street at Third Street. MoAD was conceived as a cornerstone of the revitalization of downtown San Francisco, and has become an anchor with its neighbors San Francisco MoMA, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Children's Creativity Museum (formerly Zeum) and Contemporary Jewish Museum, in making this dynamic cultural corridor a premier destination.
