408 becomes 408 / 669 MANDATORY 11-DIGIT DIALING GOES INTO EFFECT OCTOBER 20
|
With so many new requests
for home phones, cell phones, fax numbers, alarm systems, and other
telecommunication services, the 408 area code has almost exhausted all
of the numbers that are available. Therefore, last year, a new area code
was assigned to this region and will be in effect next month.
The new area code, 669, will not result in a geographical split, but will be overlaid on top of the current 408 region, so no current customers will be required to change their phone numbers. The price of a call, coverage area, or other rates and services will not change due to the overlay. Anyone who currently has a 408 area code number will keep it. Beginning November 2012, new numbers will now be assigned the 669 area code.
The immediate effect is
that customers in both the 408 and the 669 area codes will no longer be
able to dial only the 7-digit phone number for local calls. As
of October 20, 2012, all calls from the current 408 area code will
require dialing 1 plus the area code and the seven digit telephone
number. Calls placed without using the area code will
result in a recording advising the caller to dial one plus the area code
and the telephone number to complete a call. (Cell customers with
either of these area codes do not need to dial the 1 first.)

Are You Ready For As Earthquake?
|
Even
though we don't have seasonal hurricanes or tornados in California, we
still need to be prepared a natural disaster: Earthquakes.
Here are some things that you can do to prepare for such an emergency:
~Choose
a safe place in every room - under a sturdy table or desk or against an
inside wall where nothing is likely to fall on you.
~Choose an out-of-town contact, such as a family member or personal friend.
~Take
a first aid class from your local Red Cross chapter or arrange for a
class at your place of business by a certified trainer.
~Be sure that your fire extinguisher is properly charged and learn how to use it correctly.
~Bolt bookcases, cabinets and other tall furniture to wall studs.
~Strap water heaters to wall studs.
~Maintain a first aid kid and a supply of personal medications.
