Celebrating 90 Years in the San Francisco Bay Area

   

"Closing the Achievement Gap: Bring Communities Together to Expand Educational Opportunities"

SAN FRANCISCO - October 29, 2012-
  The San Francisco Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (SF NAACP) is hosting its "Annual Freedom Fund Dinner and Gala" on Saturday, November 3, 2012, Hilton Hotel Union Square, 333 O'Farrell Street, San Francisco, CA, Reception 6:00 PM, Dinner 7:00 PM.
 

Judge Greg Mathis, will be the Keynote Speaker. Judge Mathis is a nationally known figure for his advocacy campaigns for equal justice for all. His inspirational life story of a street youth who rose from jail to Judge has provided hope to millions.

  

Now a solo artist, Lenny Williams, formerly of the funk band "Tower of Power" will provide entertainment for the gala.  He has a string of hits, including "So Very Hard to Go," "Don't Change Horses (In The Middle of the Stream)" and "Luvin You," written by

The SFNAACP will honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the fight for freedom and justice for all. Dexter Woods Sr. will receive the NAACP Community Award for his work as Executive Director of San Francisco Juneteenth Festival; I. Lee Murphy Reed, Founding President of San Francisco 100 Black Women, Inc. will receive the NAACP Business and Professional Award for her work in establishing the San Francisco 100 Black Women Chapter, for establishing the African Heritage Museum and Educational Center (AHMEC) and for her years as a small business owner in the commercial and residential design business.; San Francisco Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will receive the NAACP Rosa Parks Award for their commitment and dedication to the African American Community and for their positive efforts impacting women and youth; Naomi M. Kelly, San Francisco City Administrator will receive the NAACP Public Service Award for being the first woman and African American to serve as City Administrator of the City and County of San Francisco; Fredrick Douglas Butler, Esq., will receive the NAACP Advocacy Award for his legal work as an arbitrator and mediator for Civil Rights and Residential Real Estate disputes; and The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of San Francisco will receive the NAACP Presidential Medal of Freedom Award for securing equal justice for all through the rule of law, targeting in particular the inequities confronting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities.
