American Red Cross Bay Area Regional President
Harold Brooks To Head Red Cross
International Services in D.C.

Reception Honoring Brooks To Be Held January 17, 2013.

San Francisco - Congratulations to my former boss, who is following his heart.  It's been announced that he will be heading International Services.  Giving back on an international stage has always been at the heart of Brooks, a former Peace Corps volunteer.  After I had left the organization in 2000,I recall his speaking with me about an international Red Cross trip to Zimbabwe during what I called one of our "mentoring moments."

Brooks, CEO of the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter since, 1997, shared with me that he was on a flight to Zimbabwe and he was the only man of color with a plane load of businessmen.  He was on assignment for national headquarters to share information to help the country that had been hit hard by the AIDS epidemic.  That story epitomizes Brooks for me.  Everyone else was focused on making money and he was focused on bringing healing and wisdom to improve the quality of life for people.

National Headquarters has tapped a good man for a noble cause.  Watch out President McGovern, don't be surprised if the Obama Administration is now looking over your shoulder.  There will be a celebration in Brooks' honor, January 17, 2013, 6:30 p.m. PG&E Auditorium, 77 Beale Street, San Francisco, CA  94105.  It is hosted by the American Red Cross Board of Directors, San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee and Pacific Gas & Electric Company.
