Mayor Pedro Gonzalez will be on hand to bring greetings at the Oakland International Film Festival "Rice Field of Dreams" Red Carpet Preview Reception at Ft. McKinley Restaurant in South San Francisco Thursday, March 28, 2013.

Other invited but not yet confirmed guests include area mayors: Oakland Mayor Jean Quan, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, San Bruno Mayor Jim Ruane, San Mateo Mayor David Lim, San Leandro Mayor Stephen H. Cassidy, Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates,  Brisbane Mayor Ray Miller, Burlingame Mayor Terry Nagel, Millbrae Mayor Gina Papan, Pacifica Mayor Len Stone; Actor/Humanitarian Danny Glover, Actress & Take Wings Foundation Founder Terri J. Vaughn, Fashion Producer/Actor/Writer Charleston Pierce, Actor/Producer Shabaka Henley, Oakland A's Legend Vida Blue, Giants Legend Willie Mays, other celebrities and community leaders.

"The Oakland International Film Festival is multicultural and we screen films from around the world," said David Roach, Executive Director.  As we have people from around the world come to Oakland as a destination for the Arts during the festival, we want to also reach out to our nearby neighbors.  "We appreciate Ft. McKinley owners Tiffany Le and Barry Picazo for hosting "Rice Field of Dreams" thanks to prompting from San Francisco businessman and philanthropist Henry Chu," added Roach.


"As a graduate of the Academy of Arts University, I am pleased that my film is bringing various cultures and cities

together to find out about this unique mix of the Cambodian and Cambodian American cultures, baseball, and the universal theme of overcoming challenges," said "Rice Field of Dreams" producer and director, Daron Ker.   Asian Week interviewed me this week and its great to talk about the purpose of the film that I hope inspires people to dream big and take bold steps!  I hope the film will be a catalyst to expand filmmaking and media education in Cambodia."

Tonight's event will be from 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.  At 8:15 p.m. a short ceremony emceed by San Francisco Filmmaker Jacquie Taliaferro will include South San Francisco Mayor Pedro Gonzalez, David Roach, Daron Ker, and the amazing San Francisco Trumpeter Gabriel Angelo, who has appeared on the Ellen Show, and a call to action for "Freska" of 99. 7 as "Freska Strikes Out Breast Cancer" with her own personal campaign of survival.

The Oakland International Film Festival, April 4th-7th will include two screenings of  the 75 minute "Rice Field of Dreams:"  Oakland Asian Cultural Center, Thursday, April 4th  at 2:15 p.m. and the San Leandro Performing Arts Center, Sunday, April 7th at 2:25 p.m.  Filmmaker Ker will be at both screenings for a question and answer period.  For more details and a schedule of other films and screening times visit www.oiff.org.
