Memorial Day Remembrance
May 27, 2013

Dear Friends, as we come upon Memorial Day, it is fitting to remember and recognize the sacrifice of Latino veterans, and to honor their service for America.

This Memorial Day, our Nation will celebrate and pay tribute in honor of all our fallen men and women, including the service of Latinos, who, from the American Revolution to Desert Storm and to the present conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan have risked their lives to defend the United States and the principles upon which it stands.

Millions of Latinos have defended our country since the first call went out for independence. Every war in which America has fought, from our struggle for independence to the war in Iraq, and Afghanistan, Latinos have fought and died for our country.

The first recorded American death in Iraq was 28 year old U.S. Marine Lance CPL Jose Gutierrez, a U.S. green card holder from Guatemala City, Guatemala. He was killed on March 21, 2003. And following CPL Gutierrez thousands of American service men and women volunteers have served in harm's way and died.

Veteran Suicide Rate At 22 Each Day, Department Of Veterans Affairs

For the returning Vets adjusting to civilian life and facing employment challenges has been difficult. A reality hard to comprehend is the fact that according to the VA, "among all Veterans, 22 Veterans commit suicide every day. That's 22 Veterans. Every day."

Veterans' Employment Challenges

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Veterans age 24 and under the unemployment rate is 29.1% or 12 points higher than for civilians the same age.

Highlighting the obvious is easy. What can we do? Our answer is:

WARRIORS TO THE GLOBAL MARKETS

Returning Veterans bring with them new perspectives, maturity, and an understanding of different cultural values that reign in today's globalized world.

Veterans bring a vast array of qualities: team work, loyalty, discipline, and leadership. And, they are wired and technological savvy which are complementary assets for Entrepreneurship in today's growing Global Markets.

The Greater San Jose Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is committed to assist those Veterans who opt to enter International Trade by serving as a hub to connect the Veterans with the various Training Centers, e.g., www.MBDA.gov, www.SCORE.org, www.CITD.org, www.OPIC.gov, www.EXIM.gov, www.TRADE.gov, www.state.gov, US State Department, www.SBA.gov offers Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) that provide a vast array of technical assistance to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The www.va.gov has funding available to Veterans for training purposes.

EMERGING INTERNATIONAL MARKETS

In addition, the Veterans will have, through the Greater San Jose Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, hands on training in the real world of exports and imports so that they can participate in the Chamber's members potential Global projects and programs in Africa, Asia, Mexico, Latin America, Caribbean, Eastern Europe, and Kazakhstan, etc.

Exciting emerging markets: The economies that are part of this group are considered to be very promising because they have reasonably sophisticated financial systems, controlled inflation, and soaring young populations.

The BRICS countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa

And the CIVETS: Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, and South Africa.

We have the vast resources of the US government supporting our Veterans and our Cause. Also, the vast array of emerging economies that urgently need and want US products and services for their economic development. What a Great Opportunity for our Veterans, don't you agree Jackie!

                                  WE SALUTE

On this Memorial Day, to: ALL OUR FALLEN WARRIORS, including Latino and Latina warriors, we salute you!

MEMORIAL DAY REMEMBRANCE - A TRIBUTE TO OUR VETERANS!

A Tribute to Our Valiant Veterans!

President Obama and the First Lady are committed to doing everything in their power to assist the brave men and women who have served our country in re-entering civilian life and finding employment.

"I want to send a very clear message to the men and women who are wearing - or who have worn - our country's uniform and to their spouses: when you have finished your service to our nation, you've got 2,000 great American companies ready and waiting to bring you on board"
- Michelle Obama, August 22, 2012

And, we also wish to add to the First Lady's message our Chamber's commitment through the offer of the Greater San Jose Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which is at the ready, to do its part in expanding Veterans job creation through Entrepreneurship into the Global Markets.

We support President Obama's call to support our Veterans to get jobs!

Please distribute this email and offering to any Veteran you may know to allow them the chance to see if this Global Entrepreneurship possibility is for them.

Jackie, together we can contribute to the Veterans' well being while positively affecting the US economy that is presently rebounding.

Let's work as a Team!

Thanks.
