BROWN BABIESThe
theme of fathers and family goes deep as San Francisco Black Film
Festival XV unfolds over Juneteenth and Father's Day Weekend. It not
only goes deep, but it goes international with a film by Mikaela Kirst
of Germany, "Brown Babies" which chronicles two Baker High School Alumna
growing up in the shadow of military base, Fort Benning, Ga, not
knowing their real heritage, an unknown Black U.S. Soldier and an
unknown German mother. More than four decades after graduation from
high school the film captures genealogist Henriette Cain of Rockford,
Illinois and Veteran actor Peggy Blow of Los Angeles as they connect
with family in Germany that had been lost for most of their lives. Hollywood celebrity Darrin Henson, an actor, director and choreographer who has worked with the King of Pop Michael Jackson and his former Bronx neighbor Jennifer Lopez, will be on hand opening night, June 13 for the screening of his film "The Hotel"
with its universal theme tapping into the power of music and dance-- a
perfect pitch for the San Francisco Black Film Festival perfectly placed
