MoAD Kicks Off the Summer Season with New Exhibitions, Free Admission and Family Events including Black Music Month and Juneteenth celebrations
 

MOTOWN MADNESS & EXHIBITION OPENINGS | Free Admission
Thursday, June 20, 20134:00pm – 8:00pm

MoAD joins Third Thursdays in Yerba Buena. The third Thursday of each month in downtown San Francisco’s Yerba Buena neighborhood will be a monthly outing full of arts, food, and drink. Wander the blocks around Yerba Buena Gardens to soak in art and music. MoAD will be the scene for Motown beats by Top Shelf (live band) and DJ Craft Spells, and background film (Shaft) surrounded by the iconic photographs of Gordon Parks. The main gallery will feature the first West Coast showing of the works of Nigerian national treasure J. D. 'Okhai Ojeikere. After viewing the new Gordon Parks and J. D. 'Okhai Ojeikere exhibitions downtown at MoAD join us in the Bayview for a community-wide arts celebration. Third Street will feature a myriad of activities for the whole family. Come to the 3rd on Third Arts Celebration to learn more about MoAD's I've Known Rivers Oral History Project. MoAD will bring its newest volume in the I’ve Known Rivers (IKR): The MoAD Stories Project (Bayview Hunters Point) to Auntie April's Restaurant at 4618 3rd Street, San Francisco. [more]

Straying from a typical revue, customers enjoy an interactive musical journey from the early days of Doo-Wop, thru Motown to the Classic Soul sounds of the 80s. Authored by Senator Wiener and sponsored by Mayor Breed, Senate Bill 925 (SB 925) would allow San Francisco to create permitting requirements to regulate the sale of items commonly obtained through retail theft and impose criminal penalties for those who engage in this practice.
