DeSean Jackson: The Making of a Father’s Dream” by Byron Jackson and Kern
Konwiser was center stage at a screening highlighting the Boys and Girls Club
of Lake Tahoe at the Horizon Casino and Resort, Wednesday July 17th
during the NBC televised American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe, July 16-21. (NFL Quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver won the 24th Championship, out performing Michael Phelps, Jerry Rice, Marcus Allen, Stephen Curry, David Justice, Ray Allen, Chris Chandler, Ray Ramono, Emmitt Smith, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tim Wakefield and the list goes on.)
"It was a great gesture to showcase the Boys and Girls Club to bring awareness to the 25/26 Campaign and the upcoming October 17th Fundraising for the Boys and Girls’ Club,” said Brooke Laine, South Lake Tahoe City Council. "The film is a wonderful tribute to family, friends and how hard work and determination can result in excellence.”
"It’s our family story told very candidly-no holds barred. We believe many other families and individuals will be inspired by the film to create their own plan for excellence, " said Byron Jackson, DeSean’s older brother, filmmaker, former Kansas City Chief wide receiver and currently sports editor at Fox Sports Net. "When I turned the camera on DeSean, 18 years ago and kept it rolling all to improve his performance, I never dreamed we’d make this into a film that also has an academic curriculum that can help anyone trying to achieve a goal in any walk of life, not just sports.” The film and curriculum are based on five core principles: Desire, Dream, Vision, Belief and Power.
Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe Youth Skypes with NFL Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson as LaHitz Media's Jacquie Taliaferro looks on.
"Our youth were so jazzed to talk to DeSean Jackson via Skype after seeing the film,” said Natalie Cazares-Rodriguez, Program Director, Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. "We’d love to screen the film again, plus it’s not everyday that our kids get to talk to an NFL football player who’s going to appear on Disney XD’s "Crash and Bernstein.” Our kids talk to DeSean one week and the next they see he’s on the Disney Channel. Wow!”
Chris Strauss of "USA Today” wrote about DeSean Jackson’s acting debut for the Disney Channel with Mickey (Danny Woodburn) of "Seinfeld.” Here’s a Link to the story with a clip of DeSean Jackson in action off the football field. Jackson’s guest appearance on "Crash and Bernstein” will air on Monday, July 22, 2013. Check local listings for details.
"Byron’s documentary about his brother DeSean was a last minute entry that debuted on Father’s Day at the San Francisco Black Film Festival with a special media screening at Dolby Laboratories in San Francisco,” said San Francisco Filmmaker Jacquie Taliaferro. "As my company LaHitz Media covers the celebrity golf tournament annually, it just made sense to quickly take action to screen this inspirational film during the tournament while bringing visibility to the "Boys and Girls Club and adding further notice of the film as the media gathered in town. The screening was not part of the official offerings of the tournament, so we appreciate the tournament officials sharing the information with the media and celebrities as a sidebar. It was a special encore of the San Francisco Black Film Festival founded by the late Ave Montague that is now directed by her son Kali O’Ray and his wife Katera Crossley. We hope folks in Tahoe put the festival on their calendar for next June, added Taliaferro.”
