San Francisco- The National Coalition of 100 Black Women San Francisco Chapter's 9thAnnual "Golden Girls 'Bridging the Generations'Hats and Gloves Tea, Saturday, March 1, 2014 kicks off "Women's History Month" during the 100 Black Women in San Francisco Multicultural Weekend.
"We're pleased once again to highlight women of distinction in the San Francisco Bay Area, take pause to salute our country's Tuskegee Airmen, and economically impact San Francisco with our consumer dollars during March," says Dr. Maxine Hickman, President of the San Francisco Chapter of National Coalition of 100 Black Women, founded by I. Lee Murphy-Reed, President Emeritus.
"The organization values the great work of the eight dynamic women we're recognizing, giving credit where credit is due, and it provides leadership training and experience for young women like myself as we serve the community," says Ridwana Bentley, Chairperson of The 2014 Golden Girls Hats and Gloves Tea. "You learn a great deal as you put together economic and social systems to gather hundreds of women to acknowledge our accomplishments.
The Multicultural 100 Black Women in San Francisco Weekend featuring the "Golden Girls 'Bridging the Generations' Hats and Gloves Tea will begin at the Fairmont Hotel beginning with a silent auction at 11:00 a.m. with tea commencing at 12:00 noon. Well- loved and Bay Area favorite veteran broadcaster, Rosie Lee Allen, formerly of KGO Radio will be Mistress of Ceremonies.
This year's honorees are: Kimberly Bryant, Black Girls code (Entrepreneur Award); Dr. Dorothy J. Tsuruta, Chair of African Studies, College of Ethnic Studies SF State (Education Award); Bettie Hodges, The Hannah Project (Community Service Award); Lenora Bryant, Freedom Fighter, who marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Golden Girl Award); Sheila Antrum, Chief Nursing Officer UCSF Medical Center & UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital (Trail Blazer Award); Christine Harris, Board President, San Francisco Jazz Heritage Society (Arts); Gloria Brown, Founder, African American Community Health Advisory Committee (Health Award); and Teveia Barnes, Executive Director of the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank (IBank) (Advocacy Award).
