San Francisco-September 5, 2014 - You are invited to attend today's media briefing at the African American Art and Culture Complex, as AfroSolo's Thomas Robert Simpson asks you to join him along with Supervisor London Breed for the 10 a.m. news conference.  Obama care of a different kind?   Project Empowerment: The Audacity to Succeed embraces President Obama's concern for youth as outlined in his "My Brother's Keeper Initiative." See Simpson's invitation to media and the public  as he states:

AfroSolo proudly joins President Obama's My Brothers Keeper Initiative by inaugurating Project Empowerment: The Audacity To Succeed. The purpose of this initiative is to help young Black men and boys successfully transcend youth to adulthood.

AfroSolo was inspired to action by a by-chance encounter with a report stating that on July 31, 2013, that more than sixty percent of the youths locked up in San Francisco's juvenile detention were African American. Of that, about fifty-seven percent were boys. These are startling statistics since African Americans make up less than six percent of the city's population. Upon further research, we found this to be close to the norm locally, state wide and nationally. Unfortunately, these stats are inline with todays figures.

With three different approaches, Project Empowerment's goals are to provide information, inspiration and tools to help young Black men and boys live happy, healthy and productive lives."

Thank you Supervisor Breed for caring and being on hand as AfroSolo demonstrates the power of the arts to heal.

San Francisco, CA - September 5, 2014- No word on that ice bucket challenge yet, but with LHT is kicking off its season tonight and there is room for you.  It seems that an ice bucket challenge could flow given the current craze and the fact that Charles Mingus, who left this life due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) is the

It's a theatrical triumvirate, as Lorraine Hansberry Theatre's Artistic Director, Steven Anthony Jones brings Barry "Shabaka" Henley to the stage directed by Delroy Lindo with Henley's "Mingus Remixed."  I will not begin to list the film, TV and stage credits of these gentlemen because you wouldn't have time to make it to tonight's 7:30 pm opening gala only $50 for VIP Reception and Performance and only $25 for the performance only at the Creativity Theatre, 221 Fourth Street (@Howard...just picture the lovely carrousel across from the
Barry "Shabaka" Henley , actor, producer, writer. Is it my imagination or is there any uncanny resemblance to Mingus? What say ye? See for yourself at tonight's opening of "Mingus Remixed" written by and featuring Henley.

KBLX's Nikki Thomas Pulls Out the Passion of Jinho "The Piper" Ferreira's Cops and Robbers, Saturday, September 6 at 5:30 am @102.9 FM
Nikki Thomas' (of the KBLX Morning Show) conversational style gets to the core of her guests' thoughts. Listen tomorrow at 5:30 a.m. as Piper pours out his passion for communitychange.

San Francisco-From the back story of how "Cops and Robbers" got its stage birth via the direction of Ami Zins and Lew Levinson, Nikki Thomas of KBLX, does an excellent job of peeling back the dimensions of Jinho "The Piper" Ferreira as he talks about the creative angst he developed as a law enforcement officer working daily to be the change he wants to see.  Piper talks about how his wife, educator, Dr. Dawn Williams Ferreira encouraged him to create change via "Cops and Robbers."

Hear all about it Saturday, September 6 at 5:30 a.m.  As Thomas points out, there are so many elements to Piper's story that is already demonstrated in the play, the book "Cops and Robbers, Past ,Present and Future, the CD of the play, that has been submitted to the Grammy's and the Single "Believe" from the "Cops and Robbers" EP, that it could take hours of conversation to tell the whole story.  Piper makes an appeal to the KBLX family to come out and see the play and talk about the change they want to see and be.  All remaining shows of the original run are sold out.  Good news is the show has been extended thru October 19th.   The show is for Mature Audiences.

Two Years before Ferguson, Mo hit the headlines, Bay Area Law Enforcement Officer and Artist, Jinho "The Piper" Ferreira of Flipsyde wrote "Cops and Robbers," a 17-character one man show that seems to dramatically mirror the spin of Ferguson.

"Cops and Robbers" written and performed by Jinho "The Piper" Ferreira gives an unvarnished look at violence in America, yet it calls for hope through personal responsibility and action, as seen in his Single "Believe."
