BABJA HELPS YOUNG JOURNALISTS
 
The Bay Area Black Journalists Association (BABJA) will honor veteran journalist Carolyn Tyler, an anchor and reporter at ABC 7 KGO-TV, at its annual scholarship luncheon from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM on November 7, 2014, at the City Club of San Francisco at 155 Sansome.
 
BABJA member Carolyn Tyler's distinguished broadcast journalism career includes the following highlights:

 
·  The Edward R. Murrow Award (Team Reporting) 
·  The George Foster Peabody Award (Team Reporting) 
·  The NATAS Silver Circle Award 
·  An Emmy nomination for a series on the impact of the Civil Rights movement on Bay Area students 
·  An Emmy nomination for a series on San Francisco homelessness 
 
Tyler's career serves as an example of excellence in journalism for all, especially African American students. At this scholarship luncheon, BABJA will award up to $7,500 to three students with the Belva Davis Scholarship,the Chauncey Wendell Bailey, Jr. Scholarship and the Luci S. Williams Houston Memorial Scholarship. Over the last decade, BABJA has awarded more than $60,000 to Bay Area journalism students. Click Here for Tickets & More Information.

Breed joined State Senator Scott Wiener to announce legislation to combat fencing, the sale of stolen goods on City streets. Authored by Senator Wiener and sponsored by Mayor Breed, Senate Bill 925 (SB 925) would allow San Francisco to create permitting requirements to regulate the sale of items commonly obtained through retail theft and impose criminal penalties for those who engage in this practice.
