Join thousands of celebrants in honoring Dr. King on Monday, January 19, for a full day of free and exciting events, festivals and programs.  2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the civil rights marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama that helped to spur the passage of the historic 1965 Voting Rights Act, and MLK2015 will commemorate these seminal events with a special commemorative march and a host of programs and activities for all ages, including:

Each year the Foundation partners with local and regional transportation agencies to provide commemorative transportation to and from the celebration events.

BART
Bay Area Rapid Transit annually commemorates Dr. King by partnering with the NorcalMLK Foundation in developing commemorative MLK BART Passes, which provide complementary, round-trip travel to the MLK Celebrations. Groups can receive these complementary, commemorative MLK2015 BART Passes at bart.gov/mlk.
But, Hurry! Commemorative passes are available on a first-come first-served basis and are going fast.

CALTRAIN
The Caltrain Freedom Train is the only remaining of the nation's 29 official MLK commemorative train services launched by the late Coretta Scott King in honor of her husband over 30 years ago. The services were launched to commemorate the 54-mile march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama led by Dr. King, that catalyzed the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
As part of MLK2015, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Santa Clara Valley continues to honor the legacy of this gift by keeping this one-of-a-kind service alive.

Join thousands in honoring the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery, Alabama marches and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 by experiencing the MLK2015 commemorative march/parade from theSan Francisco Caltrain Station to Yerba Buena Gardens. The march begins at 11:00am onJanuary 19, 2015, and participants are encouraged to arrive early. The 1.5 mile journey crosses theLefty O'Doul Bridge and stops at Willie Mays Plaza at AT&T Park to commemorate the crossing of theEdmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, a symbol of violence and victory in the civil rights movement. Marchers then proceed down 3rd Street to Yerba Buena Gardens.  At the conclusion of the march, in partnership with the San Francisco Interfaith Council, an interfaith commemoration will bring together the region’'s faith leaders to commemorate the vision of Dr. King and to lead participants in a spiritual reflection of his message.

The marquis event of the celebration day brings Dr. King's words to life and features conversations with civil rights and other luminaries and performances by celebrated artists.

The Liberation Film Festival (LFF) is dedicated to bringing short-format cinema and human interest documentaries to the public through innovative programs designed to engage new and diverse audiences.
2015 marks the fourth annual Liberation Film Festival and will feature human interest and civil rights documentaries and conversations. The screenings are free and open to the public with limited theater seating on a first-come first-serve basis.
LFF runs from 10:00am - 6:00pm and is scheduled for screening in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Screening Room, the Freedom Theater at the Museum of the African Diaspora, and the Creativity Theater.

We are very pleased to inaugurate the Black Comix Arts Festival at MLK2015! BCAF's mission is to celebrate the creativity and subjectivity of African Americans in the comic arts and popular visual culture, and it includes a grand exposition, kids activity, special guest artist presentations, film screenings, cosplay events and much more. BCAF begins on Sunday, January 18 at 2:00pm at the San Francisco Public Library's Main Library and continues on Monday, January 19, with screenings beginning at 10:00am and the BCAF Expo at12:00pm at City View at Metreon.

In partnership with SFEnvironment, The San Francisco Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, theAmerican Red Cross - San Francisco Chapter, San Francisco Aids Foundation, along with numerous other nonprofits, special programs and services, the MLK2015 Health and Wellness Festival brings together the region’s health providers for a one-day event of free services and exciting activities during the MLK celebration. The goal is to promote health, wellness, sustainability, and preparedness as essential elements of fair, just, and vibrant communities.
The Health and Wellness Festival is held in theYerba Buena Center for the Arts Forum during the MLK celebration.  Doors open at 11:00am.

Through the Children’s Discovery Hunt, young celebrants ages 5 - 12 can participate in a fun and engaging quest about Dr. King throughout Yerba Buena and receive a free prize at the end. This year, exciting new activities will engage the hunters in fresh and fun ways!

Labor & Community Breakfast

San Francisco Labor Council)

Join San Francisco's labor unions, civic, business and community leaders at the MLK2015 Labor & Community Breakfast on Monday, January 19 from8:00am - 10:00am at City View at Metreon in Yerba Buena Gardens.  The breakfast honors the legacy of labor and community working together in the struggle for civil rights, and it honors local labor, civic and community members' collaboration in the creation of San Francisco's Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial in Yerba Buena Gardens.  The memorial is the nation's 3rd largest monument in honor of Dr. King and the west coast's largest fountain.
The breakfast is hosted in close partnership with the San Francisco Labor Council and is a ticketed event.

MLK2015
Interfaith Ceremonies 
(In partnership with the
San Francisco Interfaith Council)

Since 2011 the San Francisco Interfaith Councilhas partnered with the NorcalMLK Foundation to host the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. interfaith commemorations at the annual celebration events. As part of the commemorations, celebrants are able to participate in two ceremonies, the Selma-to-Montgomery commemoration honoring the marches' 50th anniversary at Willie Mays Plaza at AT&T Park and the annual interfaith commemoration on the Esplanade Stage in Yerba Buena Gardens at the march's conclusion at11:45am.

During the 2014 MLK celebration events, area museums offered free admission and special programs for all ages in honor of Dr. King.
MLK2015 looks to continue this offering with some of the areas noted museums.
