Gets $10,000 Gift Inspired by Mayor Willie Brown
Annual December 31st Celebration Thanks Donors with Movie and Zoo Tickets, Live Music with the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre Singers, BrotheR FatheR Sun & San Francisco Boys Chorus with Emcee Keldamuzik.
San Francisco-New Year's Eve, Goodwill is turning a celebration into new job opportunities and it's thanks to friends like Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. Mayor Brown has made his annual donation of designer clothing to Goodwill for this year's Donate-A-Thon. His call to action at last year's Donate-A-Thon has resulted in $35,000 in new clothing. A gift today of $10,000 worth of new clothes being added to the
Dr. Maxine Hickman San Francisco 100 Black Women Collection is kicking off Donate-A-Thon 2015.
"We appreciate and thank Dr. Hickman for adding to
the collection named in her honor in July. Not everyone is downsizing a boutique like Dr. Hickman, but every gift is valuable as these contributions give new opportunities to those needing job training, job placement, and a second chance," said Maureen Sedonaen, Goodwill San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties. Last year, more than 600 people got jobs in San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties with the help of Goodwill.

During Donate-a-thon, Goodwill's 1500 Mission Street donation drop turns into a donation sensation with live music. Yvonne Cobbs, Musical Director and the Singers from the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre's Legendary Gospel Choir hot off the run of "Soulful Christmas;"
the San Francisco Boys Chorus; FatheR, BrotheR, Sun Band; and Talk Show Host & Rapper Keldamuzik will be among today's entertainment. The first 400 Goodwill donors at the Mission Street location will win San Francisco Zoo or Century Cinema movie tickets.
Everyone wins as the annual holiday tradition of giving yields new job opportunities and an end of year tax deduction. Gently used clothes, toys, technology, furniture and household goods are the lifeblood of Goodwill's almost 100-year-old nonprofit social enterprise. These much needed donations fund Goodwill's job training and placement programs that give local people a second chance and a dignified path out of poverty.
