Oakland produces born leaders!
Longest-running East Bay Boy Scouts program needs support
They hold a special distinction—within their world, Boy Scouts of America—an Eagle Scout is the organization’s highest rank. Several well-known Eagle Scouts include astronaut Neil Armstrong (first man on moon), US President the late Gerald Ford(1st Eagle to be President), Broadcast pioneer Attorney Percy Sutton, TV celebrity and pianist John Tesh, former Secretary of the US ArmyTogo West, former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg, Bill Gates Sr, Retired US Air Force officer Guion “Guy” S. Buford Jr (1st African-American in space).
Locally, the Allen Temple Baptist Church in East Oakland has the distinction as the longest running, church-based Boy Scouts program in the city. No small feat, they have made 39 Eagle Scouts since 1993—the most recent being two sets of brothers: Kennedy Watson, Brendan Watson, Clayton Crowell and Cameron Crowell.
These four young men will be honored in a community celebration on Sunday, March 20, 2016, 3:00 pm, in the Family Life Center on the Allen Temple campus, 8501 International Blvd.
The challenge—the Boy Scouts program at Allen Temple needs financial support to keep the program in place. They are asking the community-at-large to contribute to ensure ongoing operation of the program.
