When they meet in Cuba, it's joy and baseball versus murder and poverty. Two teams. Two countries. One game. Ghost Town to Havana (2015) is a powerful new documentary film by Academy Award nominated director Eugene Corr.

to improve our planet. We understand ourselves better when we, as a group, witness the same thing, i.e. a film, and discuss it afterwards. Attendance at the OIFF allows a unique opportunity that is not usually afforded viewers, the chance to hear from and discuss the film with the filmmakers themselves.
We are excited that this year's opening night film is the documentary Ghost Town to Havana, a film that demonstrates our interest in connecting films to community. Director Eugene Corr begins this film on the baseball diamond of Nichol Park in Richmond, California and tells the story of his father's influence in bringing baseball to Eugene's life. Years later, the Ghost Town (West Oakland) team and a boys' team from Havana, Cuba compete and discover similar life lessons. In this journey of sports, culture and community, lessons are learned for all ages. Our mission is to promote filmmakers and their stories to better understand ourselves, our communities and the world around us."
We would like to thank the following individuals and organizations for their support of The 14th Oakland Interna- tional Film Festival. Board Members/ Advisory Board members: Dr. Mack Roach III, Paula J. Harrell, Johnny Drake, D'Wayne Wiggins, Carol H. Wil- liams, Randolph Belle, Sponsors- Chiho Sawada of Holy Names University, My- ron Potier of Commercial Image Design Group, Jim Hollis of the Calculus Round Table, Zawditu Selassie of Youth Aid, the filmmakers and their stories!

IN WAKE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE NEWS, LORRAINE HANSBERRY THEATRE IS SPOT ON WITH
"THURGOOD"... Back by popular Demand
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!!! Eight Performances of "Thurgood" in the Buriel Clay Theater at the African American Art & Culture Complex (AAACC) 762 Fulton Street
in San Francisco.

THURGOOD by George Stevens, Jr., is an eye-opening, humorous and personal portrait of a true American hero, Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first African American to be appointed to the Supreme Court. In this one-man play, directed by Margo Hall, Lorraine Hansberry Theatre's Artistic Director, Steven Anthony Jones, portrays this iconic Civil Rights legend.
Through a fictional lecture given at his alma mater, Howard University, Thurgood reviews the evolution of his life from his early days as a spirited young man and the founder of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund to his appointment to the highest court in the land in October 1967 by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

THURGOOD is particularly relevant as a reminder of how our civil rights were fought for and won. The 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was celebrated in August 2015. This piece of federal legislation prohibits racial discrimination in voting, a most important freedom as the 2016 presidential election campaign is in full motion.Come for the play. Stay for the talkbacks.

Performances of THURGOOD are 100 minutes (without Intermission) followed by 30-minute talkbacks after matinee performances between the audience, the artist and community leaders about the impact of desegregation with frank, informed and thought-provoking discussions about civil rights issues then and now.

"History teaches that grave threats to liberty often come in times of urgency, when constitutional rights seem too extravagant to endure."   - Thurgood Marshall
