100-Year-Old San Francisco Lady Fights for Home From Sickbed Yes on "I" Can Help Others Like Iris Canada
September 16, 2016

With 100 Year Old Iris Canada fighting from the hospital for her apartment home with former Burlington, VT Community and Economic Development Director, Peter Owens, the struggle for the soul of San Francisco is on showcase.  Is it still a place to leave your heart with the most vulnerable being expelled due to rising rents where a one bedroom apartment can go as high as $3,000 a month.  With the rising costs, a senior on a fixed income, can find themselves on the streets of San Francisco post haste after an eviction, as there is up to five years or more waiting lists, many of which are closed, for affordable housing.  The Dignity Fund, "Yes, On I" Campaign" may be able to help the people who helped build the City and made it what it is today, but who are being quickly discarded.  Without raising taxes, "Proposition I" will develop an added safety net to help stem the tide of evictions and other attacks on the elderly.

Without Raising Taxes... Yes on I San Francisco Dignity Fund...
Protecting Services for Seniors and Adults with Disabilities Without Raising Taxes
Seniors and adults with disabilities are a vital part of San Francisco - over their lives, they'vecontributed to the City we know and love. But, for years, funding for programs and serviceshasn't kept pace with the growth of these populations. Now, 24% of San Franciscans are people with disabilities or aged 60 and over; by 2030, that number will grow to 30%.

With many seniors and people with disabilities living on fixed incomes, San Francisco's rising cost of living makes it even harder to get by. According to a UCLA Center for Healthy Policy study, 57% of single senior households and 39% of two-person senior households in San Francisco don't make enough to cover the costs of housing, food, medicine, and other necessities. CALL TO ACTION FROM SF BAYVIEW ARTICLE:
"Please act for Iris

We are asking people to send emails urging that Iris be allowed to stay in her home. Write to:
Our message is simple:
Iris Canada does not want to leave her home. Her physical reaction to the sheriff's notice about the scheduled eviction shows that leaving her home will negatively impact her health. She should not be put through the stress of an actual eviction by the sheriff. It could kill her.
Please maintain a non-inflammatory tone in your email, as we do not want to open ourselves up to a harassment complaint."

MEDIA MANIPULATION?
Media Outlets received an 8-24-2016 letter before Ms. Meriouns as she was blindsided by the former Burlington, Vermont Community and Economic Development Director's correspondence, first hearing about it from a reporter's request.

Subject: RE: Letter to Iris Merriouns

Hello, Ms. Merriouns, my name is Adam, I write for Curbed SF. I know this is a personal matter that's undoubtedly causing a lot of stress and the last thing you need right now is reporters bothering you, but Peter Owens office did forward this to us, and a lot of people are concerned about your aunt's housing case.

Basic fairness demands that I get in touch with you and give you a chance to respond to these kinds of allegations. If you have a few moments, please drop me a line at 415 573 8979. Thanks for your time.
