Proposition I, slated to appear on the November ballot, takes an ambitious step toward meeting the present and future needs of seniors, adults with disabilities, veterans, and people living with chronic disease in San Francisco. Successful passage of Proposition I will provide a baseline of funding for services so that vulnerable populations can live in their homes with independence and dignity for as long as it is safely possible.
City officials estimate this population will swell by 100,000 in the next 15 years. By 2030, the percentage of seniors and adults with disabilities living in San Francisco will jump from 25% to 30%. Already, our city is ranked #1 in California for the highest percentage of seniors compared to the general population.
Proposition I, a charter amendment backed by 9 of 11 Supervisors and Mayor Lee, commits a steady increase in City funding to address the exponential growth of these populations. In order to plan effectively for this significant demographic shift, our city must act now.
