"Merry Christmas to You..."

The World Mourns with Berlin.
let us not cast away hope and the light of the season, as our hearts go out to the people of Berlin and the people of the world because we are all affected by such atrocities to the body and psyche; as we grieve with the families affected by the early December Warehouse Fire, and as we remember all of the assaults on humanity small and large, up close and personal and otherwise. let us not cast away hope and the light of the season!
In 1945 when "A Christmas Song" was written by Mel Tormé and Bob Wells, the atomic bombs, "Little Boy" and "Fat Man" were dropped. So amid the tragedies,  it is imperative to create triumphs, no matter how small they may be, no matter if but a poem, a dance, or song. Hold fast those "near to you and dear to you" and make it an effort to reach out to those "not so dear and near" and enlarge your circle.  You make it a Merry Christmas, come hell or high water!

CALPERS STOPS SMOKING INVESTMENTS....
With Menthol Flavored cigarettes leading to the deaths of far too many African Americans, The African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council (AATCLC) was at the forefront of cheering on CA Treasurer John Chiang for pulling CALPERS by the coattails to stop investing in tobacco companies.  Treasurer John Chiang in letter told CAlPERS that they may be making money on one end but the State was paying out too much as a result of lost productivity and deaths due to smoking.  See the Sweet Tweets from AATCLC:

Celebrating the 40th Year of "Take A New Year's Resolution to Stop Smoking"
and Over 50 Years of "The Great American Smokeout"

By Frederick S. Mayer, RPh, MPH, and Anh Le

We call on our communities to celebrate the "Take A New Year's Resolution to Stop Smoking" (TANYRSS) event this year, which begins December 15 and runs through Super Bowl Sunday, February 5th.

This annual event offers us the opportunity to urge cigarette smokers, family members, and friends to quit smoking to regain their health, and to address other tobacco issues which confront our communities.
As a pharmacist who operated my own pharmacy in Sausalito, I (Fred Mayer) founded the "Great American Smokeout" in 1967 to help educate smokers to quit their deadly habit.  Since then, over 50 million Americans have quit smoking as a result of the "Great American Smokeout."  I also founded "Take A New Year's Resolution to Stop Smoking" forty years ago.
