B) Mary Cecilia Murk is Leaving the Building
As you may already know, MC is leaving NCt for greener pastures in Sac-town. We wish her the best in the next chapter of her life and will certainly miss her - sigh! Below is her farewell message …
To the Incredible Panelists of SF Neighborhood Court,
By now, I have had the chance to tell some of you but for those I haven't seen I wanted to reach out and inform you that my time with Neighborhood Court (and SF Pretrial) is coming to an end. As many of you have likely heard me mention, I was married last April. My husband and I will be starting our family soon and in an effort to be closer to his family, we are relocating to Sacramento. I have taken a position with Yolo County Probation and am looking forward to the new adventure that lies ahead for me.
Over the past two years I have gained a great deal of knowledge and understanding of what it means for communities to take pride in their city-- and neighborhoods-- like I never thought possible. Growing up a military brat, I've never stayed anywhere long enough to experience what it means to have as much invested as many of you have in your neighborhoods, and in San Francisco. I have witnessed an outpouring of compassion and understanding from each of you that was beyond anything I could have ever expected. I can't overemphasize enough the impact that each of you have had on me over my time with this program and I will forever be a warrior with great faith in restorative justice, no matter where life takes me, or where I call home throughout the rest of my life.
I would like to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for your creativity, your commitment to bettering your communities, and your open mindedness towards some very lost souls who have come through this program. My contact info is listed below for any of you who would like to stay in touch. I will be back in the Bay Area often to visit and my time working with all of you will always have a very special place in my heart. Thank you for your service, and hope to see you around your beautiful city again sometime very soon.
P.S. You're in very good hands with Vincent, and I hope you'll continue showing him the hospitality and warm inclusion I have felt in all of your courts over my tenure in this position.
Mary Cecilia Murk
C. Neighborhood Courts Adjudicator: Marsha Maloof
Having served on the Bayview Neighborhood Courts for many years, Marsha’s reason for serving is simple, “people make mistakes, get overwhelmed, or simply don’t know their options – to this end, providing a community based intervention that helps first-time offenders understand the impact of their actions and make amends with all parties involved, addresses not only their actions, but most often gets to the cause of their actions and offers them an opportunity to change the trajectory of their lives.”
Marsha has two sons, three grandchildren and has lived in San Francisco for the last twenty years. Her recent history includes a name change from Pendergrass to Maloof after marrying her long-time partner, Quijuan Maloof in 2014. Her other volunteer activities include being President of the Bayview Hill Neighborhood Association, being a Disaster Corp and NERT trained volunteer, and serving on various committees at her church, Jones Memorial United Methodist.
As President and Principal Consultant of Pendergrass Smith Consulting, Marsha has over two decades of experience in the fields of corporate and nonprofit management, program planning-development-implement
ation-management, and public and community relations. Her areas of expertise include developing successful strategies for forging collaborative partnerships, organizational change management, executive management and organizational development. Marsha is also a highly skilled facilitator, consensus builder and certified mediator. She has worked directly with a wide range of organizations, businesses and municipalities and has been successful in incorporating the Restorative Justice approach to a number of programs she has helped to develop. In San Francisco she helped develop and implemented the NoVA project for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, which included elements of Restorative Justice and was the first program in the nation to address victims as part of a reentry program.
With over twenty years of experience as a non-profit management consultant, she has provided conflict resolution for many organizations in the Bay Area such as Parents Helping Parents and Children’s Hospital in Oakland. Marsha is also an experienced trainer and educator and serves as an adjunct professor at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont.
At the end of the day, Marsha said she feels blessed to have such a rich full life and is fulfilled by the opportunity to help others in such a meaningful way by working with Neighborhood Courts.
We are lucky to have you Marsha! Keep up the great work!
Please let me know if you have questions.
Best,
Jackson
