As of this writing, Iris Canada does not know what most of the Bay Area knows. When she wanted to go to her home Friday her niece and namesake, Iris Merriouns, came up with an excuse to delay her return home because the locks had been changed. You may recall Iris was hospitalized after she received notice of the eviction in the fall of last year.
Amid all the shouts and clamor Iris Canada has received grassroots support. Here is a scene at her home at 12 noon on Thursday, February 9th, the day before the lock out on Friday as posted on Facebook when supporters braved the stormy weather in San Francisco significant of these stormy times. Greater Grace Temple 240 Page Street San Francisco, down the street from Iris Canada's Home, 670 Page Street where she was locked out of her house on Friday, 2-10-17. The site has been home for several historic Black churches. Reverend D.M. Phillips and First Lady Kim Phillips head the church which is NOT in Foreclosure. You could say it's experiencing FORCED closure by the prevailing winds and policies of San Francisco. More to come on this story!
