Dear Neighbors:
We're writing to let you know about upcoming construction activities scheduled to occur in May 2018.
Construction activity continues to be focused on rebar and concrete, in addition to installation of interior building utilities. Concrete pours of varying sizes are expected to take place multiple times each week through the summer. Pours are expected to take 3-6 hours and will take place from both Indiana and Minnesota Streets.
Work schedules and activities may be impacted by rain.
Work hours are 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. weekdays and work is expected on Saturdays. Noisy work is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. Saturdays. For both sites, installation of interior plumbing, water, electrical, and other utilities continues.
590 Minnesota Activity:
- Construction of the floors is underway with horizontal framework for concrete pours. These pours are scheduled to take place in early May.
- Construction of concrete interior walls and columns is also underway. This work includes placing rebar columns, putting up wood forms to shape the concrete, pouring concrete, then removing the forms.
600 Minnesota Activity:
- Construction of the floors includes horizontal framework for the concrete pours. These pours are scheduled in mid-May.
- Construction of concrete interior walls and columns continues. This work includes placing rebar columns, putting up wood forms to shape the concrete, pouring concrete, then removing the forms.
Lane Closures and Parking Impacts:
- Lane closures on Indiana Street are expected to take place frequently through the summer 2018 to support concrete pours. Lane closures may also take place on Minnesota Street during concrete pours. No full street closures are expected and flaggers will be present to direct traffic.
- If any street parking closures are needed during concrete pours, signs will be posted at least 72 hours in advance. Local access to driveways and garages will be maintained when street parking is closed.
- Sidewalk closures may also take place for short periods adjacent to the construction sites on both Indiana and Minnesota Streets. Detour signs will be in place to alert and reroute pedestrian traffic.
Horns
For safety reasons, an air horn is sounded each time a tower crane lifts materials. The alert is to notify the crews working under the crane that there is a load traveling above them.
Work Schedules: Saturday work is scheduled to continue
The project team is scheduled to work on Saturdays. Work hours on Saturday are 8 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with any noisy work starting at 9 a.m. On weekdays, construction work hours for noisy work are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m; non-noisy activity may take place 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Flaggers are stationed at each entrance and exit to assist with pedestrian and other traffic.
Dust control measures are being employed by the contractor, including using water on site and covering trucks that are removing debris.
Trucks accessing the site are using routes in accordance with this trucking route map.
Project Description:
In the Dogpatch neighborhood immediately south of the Mission Bay Campus, UCSF is building new housing on Minnesota Street. The project will provide up to 595 units for graduate students, post docs, residents, and fellows, nearly doubling the campus supply and significantly reducing the university’s shortfall of campus housing. Two five-story buildings on both sides of 18th Street will include below-market rate two-bedroom, studio, and efficiency apartments. Because the units are small, the project includes ample study and community space along with landscaped courtyards. A dedicated retail space is anticipated to be a corner market. Although the project includes a small amount of parking, tenants are advised not to bring cars to campus since most of the parking spaces are for ride share vehicles, bikes, and UCSF employees. The facility is expected to be UCSF’s most energy-efficient building to date. The new housing is scheduled to open in summer 2019. |
