Thousands gathered in San Francisco for the inauguration of London Breed, the City's First Black Female Mayor.  With video greetings from San Francisco's First Female Mayor, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Kamala Harris, Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congresswoman Jackie Speier, the festivities were blessed by Rabbi Beth Singer of Temple Emanu-El and Dr. Amos Brown of Third Baptist Church as they declared Mayor London Breed the 45th Mayor of San Francisco is an answer to prayer and that her leadership of San Francisco will be a demonstration to the nation and the 45th President on how to act.  Both Congregation Emanu-El and Third Baptist Church were established during the Gold Rush Days of California within two years of each other, noted Brown.  Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom showed much delight as he Swore in the Mayor and she then spoke passionately to the people gathered about the need for compassion while tough decisions will need to be made to move the City forward.  Wright Enterprises Community Spotlight includes Wednesday, July 11th ceremonies and Monday, July 9th special event honoring the Mayor by clergy of various religious backgrounds.

Jackie Wright, Wright Enterprises, (right) pictured with an unnamed guest, long time KPIX News Director Dan Rosenheim and Michael D. of The Registry Bay Area at one of the recent Ethnic Heritage Month Celebrations. KPIX announced Rosenheim's retirement last Friday, July 6, 2018. Wright, former Public Affairs manager for the CBS duopoly, instituted the CW & KPIX Station celebrations beginning with the Latino Heritage Month Celebration in 2004.  Board of Supervisors President Malia Cohen officiated her first meeting on Tuesday, July 10th. The District 10 Supervisor received high praise for her leadership for fighting for the youth of San Francisco by the Flavored Tobacco Ban legislation she initiated in April 2017.  It was noted that 68% of San Franciscans agreed with Cohen when the Tobacco Industry forced a referendum in June. The legislation stood to stop the sale of flavored tobacco in San Francisco!  Among Cohen's duties for the day included leading the Supervisors in their goodbye tribute to London Breed, who had served twice as Board of Supervisors President before moving on to the City's top job. Don't Forget the Fight Continues!   An Estimated $6 Million Dollars to Be Released to Community Organizations to Help Save Black Lives From Smoking Deaths The African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council (AATCLC) is pleased to announce that the California Department of Public Health, California Tobacco Control Program (CTCP) is re-releasing an RFA (Request for Application) to potentially fund (4) African American/Black Regional Initiatives to Reduce Tobacco Related Disparities in our population. This is a significant initiative as these are five-year regional grants with an estimated total funding amount of $6,705,540.
