MAYOR LONDON BREED ON GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM’S BUDGET PROPOSAL

I am incredibly excited by the bold proposals put forward by Governor Newsom to address our state’s housing and homelessness crises. Too many people are struggling to afford to live in San Francisco, the Bay Area, and California, and we need statewide solutions. We have been under-building housing for years and the effects are evident in our high housing and rent prices. By building more homes and investing in affordable housing, we can make it possible for our low- and middle-income populations to afford to call California home.

Additionally, Governor Newsom’s proposals to address homelessness can help the thousands of people who are struggling on our streets. San Francisco has been at the forefront of efforts to help people into care and shelter, and the Governor’s proposed funding will help us with the resources needed to address this issue not just in San Francisco, but also on a more regional scale. I look forward to working with Governor Newsom and our regional and state partners to move forward these solutions together.”
