Closer to home, the work of San Jose's Raj Jayadev of Silicon Valley Debug is a short documentary that gives a glimpse of the power of being "my brother's keeper" as a defense attorney in the SF Public Defender's office, Jacque (pronounced Jac-coo) Wilson leads the charge on the behalf of his father, Vietnam Veteran Mack Wilson, his brother attorney Jacq Wilson, and their family to save his little brother Neko Wilson via CA State Senator Nancy Skinner's SB 1437. Charged with a double murder, he did not commit, Neko was saved from the death penalty or life in prison. See the New York Times Article on the case.
KSEE TV News Report on Neko Wilson's Release
The film screenings will be followed by panelists who will discuss prison reform: former PUC Judge Karen Clopton; Supreme Court-winning civil rights attorney Pamela Price; and attorney Jacq Wilson. All three served on a panel on "Implicit Bias" with Adachi at Congregation Emanu-El during the 2016 San Francisco Black Film Festival screening of Adachi's "Racial Facial." (Event recording courtesy of Johnnie Burrell, www.internationalmediatv.com.) CA State Senator Nancy Skinner at this writing is attempting to clear her calendar to join the panel.
