OAKLAND-The 17th Oakland International Film Festival (OIFF17) kicks off a series of independent film screenings, panels, and special events on featuring and networking independent filmmakers and amplifying the stories they tell.
Day 1 will begin with an OIFF17 press conference at RBA Creative, 3718 MacArthur Boulevard in the Laurel District 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m., followed by a pre- festival 4:00 p.m.
reception at Cana's Bar and Parlor,530 Lake Park Avenue (just a few doors away from The Grand Lake Theatre), followed by a
series of short films at The Historic Grand Lake Theatre, 3200 Grand Avenue, from 6:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
The first set of short films will begin at 6:00 p.m. The films featured will be:
"Soar, Torian," Soar;" "Ama," "So Beautiful," "Cycles Web Series," "On Mother's Day," "Fixx My Kixx,"and "Conquered." Filmmakers, Audrey Candy Corn, Peter Menchini, Adimu Madyun, LaTajh Weaver, Ellen Wen, Raymundo Peralta and Shaka Jamal Redmond will be present for the TalkBack after the Screening.

The second set of short films at The Grand Lake Theatre will begin at 8: 45 p.m. The short films featured will be:
"Renegade," "Building Blocks," "The Ghost of Highway 20," "Code Switch" "All of This" and "Oakland Eastside Story." Filmmakers, Luis Montoya, Arthur Gallery, Tony Jonick, and Doug Werby, Alba Roland Mejia, Darryl Jones, Oscar Hernandez will be present for the TalkBack.
